During development, primitive olfactory neurons extend their axons from the olfactory placode, through the mesenchyme, towards the telencephalic vesicle.
2.
In the rat cortex, they appear at embryonic day ( E ) 11.5 in the lateral aspect of the telencephalic vesicle and cover its whole surface on E12.
3.
Apart from the lack of a causal argument for introducing the axis in the telencephalon, there is the obvious difficulty that there is a pair of telencephalic vesicles, so that a bifid axis is actually implied in these outdated versions.
